Education Compliance FAQ
Purpose of This Document
This Education Compliance FAQ explains regulatory requirements, student responsibilities, and procedural rules applicable to education offered by Royse and Associates. It is intended to support compliance with Alaska Real Estate Commission requirements and to clarify how education completion relates to licensing and renewal.
Royse and Associates is an approved education provider. It is not a licensing authority and does not act on behalf of any regulatory agency.
This document supplements, and should be read in conjunction with, the Royse and Associates Terms and Conditions.
- Types of Education Offered
Royse and Associates provides several categories of real estate education. Different regulatory rules apply depending on the course type.
Education categories include:
- Continuing Education (CE)
- Sales Post Licensing
- Broker Post Licensing
- Reinstatement and Reactivation Education, which is treated as Continuing Education
- Pre-Licensing Education
Students are responsible for understanding which category applies to their enrollment.
- Daily Credit Hour Limits
The Alaska Real Estate Commission (AREC) limits the number of education hours that may be credited in a single calendar day. These limits vary by education type.
Continuing Education (CE)
A licensee may receive credit for no more than ten (10) hours of Continuing Education in a single calendar day.
Sales Post Licensing
A student may receive credit for no more than eight (8) hours of instruction in a single calendar day.
Broker Post Licensing
A student may receive credit for no more than eight (8) hours of instruction in a single calendar day.
Regulatory Reference
12 AAC 64.410(c) provides in part:
“Regardless of the number of courses taken in a single day, a student may not receive credit for more than ten hours of instruction per day to meet the continuing education requirements of AS 08.88.091 and 12 AAC 64.500.”
Post Licensing daily limits are governed by the statutes and regulations applicable to Sales Post Licensing and Broker Post Licensing education.
Daily limits apply regardless of delivery method, course format, or system access.
- Calendar Day and Time Standard
For purposes of compliance, a “calendar day” is measured using Alaska Time (GMT-9, or GMT-8 during Daylight Saving Time).
Students are responsible for ensuring that course completion dates comply with this time standard, regardless of their physical location.
- Course Structure and System Access
Some courses are structured to restrict access in order to support compliance with daily credit limits. Other courses, including modular offerings, may not include automatic restrictions.
System controls are provided as an aid only. They do not override regulatory requirements. The student remains solely responsible for compliance with all AREC rules, including daily credit limits.
- Evaluations and Quizzes
All courses offered by Royse and Associates require completion of evaluations and a quiz in order to earn a certificate of completion.
General requirements include:
- Required evaluations must be completed before the quiz becomes available.
- A minimum score of seventy percent (70%) is required to pass a quiz.
- Certificates of completion are issued only after successful quiz completion.
- Quiz retakes may be permitted depending on the course.
These requirements apply to all course categories unless otherwise stated.
- Certificates of Completion
Certificates of completion are issued electronically through the student’s account once all course requirements are satisfied.
Important clarifications:
- Royse and Associates does not submit certificates to the Alaska Real Estate Commission, testing vendors, or any regulatory authority.
- Students are responsible for downloading, retaining, and submitting certificates when required.
- Certificates may be requested by the Alaska Real Estate Commission during an audit or review.
Royse and Associates maintains course completion records for a minimum of three (3) years, as required by regulation. School record retention does not replace the student’s obligation to retain personal copies of certificates.
- Education Completion vs. License Renewal
Completion of an education course does not, by itself, renew, reinstate, or activate a real estate license.
License renewal and reinstatement require separate action by the licensee, including submission of applications, affidavits, and any required documentation to the Alaska Real Estate Commission. Education completion is only one component of the regulatory process.
- Renewal Submissions and Affidavits
When submitting a renewal or reinstatement application, licensees certify that required education has been completed in compliance with AREC regulations.
If education is incomplete, or if credits are later determined to be non-compliant, the Alaska Real Estate Commission may take administrative action. This may include rejection of credits, delayed renewal, lapsed license status, or additional reinstatement requirements.
Royse and Associates does not review, approve, or submit renewal applications or affidavits on behalf of students.
- Audits and Regulatory Review
All education completed through Royse and Associates is subject to audit by the Alaska Real Estate Commission.
During an audit, the Commission may review:
- Certificate dates
- Credit totals
- Compliance with daily credit limits
- Completion of required evaluations and quizzes
Credits completed outside regulatory limits may be rejected. Royse and Associates is not responsible for regulatory outcomes resulting from student non-compliance.
- Technical Responsibility
Students are responsible for maintaining internet access, compatible devices, and account credentials. Technical issues do not alter regulatory requirements, extend deadlines, or excuse non-compliance.
- Relationship to Terms and Conditions
This Education Compliance FAQ supplements the Royse and Associates Terms and Conditions. In the event of a conflict, regulatory requirements and the Terms and Conditions govern course participation and compliance responsibilities.
- Educational Disclaimer
Courses are provided for educational purposes only. Course content does not constitute legal advice. Students should consult brokers, attorneys, or the Alaska Real Estate Commission when questions arise regarding regulatory obligations.
Final Note
Students are encouraged to review this FAQ carefully and retain a copy for reference. Compliance with AREC regulations is ultimately the responsibility of the licensee.
