Tech Tip: Reduce Spam!

If you have a web site, spammers are probably harvesting your email address.

If your web site has your email address somewhere on the site as your name@yoursite.com.  A simple leading edge design trick is to have the email read
your nameATyoursite.com.  You can still have the hyperlink read mailto:your name@yoursite.com and have the user not see any changes to functionality when they click the link.  That is, it will still open their email client, (Outlook or Outlook Express for example), to create a new email message with your address in the To: field

Typically, every web site has what is called a catch-all alias email address. This means that all emails with anynameorterm@.yoursite.com that is sent to you is probably ending up in your inbox.  Have your hosting company delete the catch-all alias and this should reduce spam. You might want to add a few versions or misspellings of your name as added alias, so your intended emails still reach you.

Alexa Search Engine Ranking

Do you know where your web site ranks? In Jerry's class on Search Engine Placement at the Alaska Adventure,  he mentioned Alexa, an Amazon.com company, that gives an independent ranking on websites.  Alexa ranks Yahoo #1 and MSN #3.  The lower the number the better.  To download the free toolbar that gives you the information, click here or go to Alexa.com

Once downloaded, the toolbar will show-up on your Internet Explorer browser.  You want to customize it so it doesn't track your on-line usage.
1. Click on the down arrow on the Alexa button on the far left hand side of the new toolbar.
2. Unselect the 'toolbar you made.'
3.Unselect enable the tool bar 'hints at startup.'
4. Select 'show ranking.'
5. Then click 'done.'

Now let's make sure it is set up correctly.  After you have done this, your browser should come back up.  To make sure you did it right, type in www.AlaskaYellowpages.com.  You should see a traffic ranking number around 132,166 on the tool bar, making us the number one Alaska Business Directory. 300,000 rankings above our closest competitor!  Click on the ranking number and you will go to the Alexa ranking site.  Once there, click on the link on the top of the page that says 'traffic detail' and you will see more specific detail.  Click on the image of AlaskaYellowpages.com at the top of the page and you will now go back to that site.  Add our site to your favorites, and check back from time to time, because we will be adding some technology and real estate resources to the site.

Pre License As always we offer our monthly Pre-License classes.  But...Did you know that our course is also approved for correspondence?  If you have an assistant or know someone who is looking for a career change, but cannot make the weekend class, never fear!  Our Pre-License Correspondence Classes are the solution and attendance at the live courses, if desired, is also included!

Broker Upgrade!  Do you need your Associate Broker or Broker license?  This class gives you the training you need and more.  With the new law defining licensees/consumer relationships taking effect in 4 months are you ready?
